Puyo visitors looking at Orchids

The Orchid and Botanical Garden of the Ecuadorian Amazon

Is the fruit of an idea that began in Puyo in 1980. Here you can discover orchids in their natural setting, in a restored forest in the upper Amazon basin. This reserve is a site of scientific inquiry, thanks to the work of its owner, Omar Tello.
The reserve is guided by the mission:

  • to promote environmental education
  • to promote the conservation of the natural resources of the Amazon
  • to promote the scientific research of the Amazonian flora as a sustainable means of community development

Tala de bosque en la Amazonía ecuatoriana

It is illegal to remove orchids from their natural habitat.

In the formation of our reserve, we have only rescued orchids from fallen trees in logged forests.

The illegal trade of numerous species from tropical areas, especially orchids, is one of the leading factors driving extinctions. If you collect tropical orchids, always check where they are coming from.
